Linda Ewing and Janet Rineer danced hula during The Hawaiian Serenaders Concerts at Ukulele Mix Plate from January – April 2015. They take Advanced Ukulele classes from Mele at Kaunoa Senior Center for adults 55 and better and perform in the Maui Ukulele Pops Band.
On March 25, Linda and Janet wore their formal Band attire and danced to “Papalina Lahilahi,” “Puamana,” and “Lahainaluna.”
Sometimes Linda and Janet helped out during the ‘ukulele workshop part of the program by wearing their Band informal pink shirts to be identifiable while playing their ‘ukulele close to the audience.
On April 8 they were in Hilo for the Merrie Monarch Festival and thus Rich played ukulele as Mele danced hula to “Puamana” and “Honolulu I’m Coming Back Again” during our concert. We were surprised to see a young Japanese woman doing hula motions and invited her to come up on stage and dance hula with Mele.
