Led Maui Ukulele Jazz Trio

In 2011, Rich and I invited a master student from Kaunoa Senior Center to play jazz songs with us that were too difficult to teach in the classroom. Our goal was to play music “just for the fun of it” and it worked! One member also played banjo-uke and thus Mele brought out Dad’s banjo-uke to play some songs, too.

The trio performed 16 shows from 2011 -2017 with 3 different students as the third member. Our debut was at the Maui County Senior Fair for about 300 people. Our main venue was at the Annual Maui Ukulele Guild Exhibition at Queen Kaahumanu Center as we played on the same stage as the Maui Ukulele Pops Band with a group in between so we could change from Hawaiian to jazz attire for our set.
