Private Small Group

Small Group Lesson

Mele taught private small group ukulele lessons for 2-6 people who know each other at the historic Hale Ho’ike’ike at the Bailey House (Bailey House Museum) in Wailuku from November 2011 – December 2018. Most were visitors to Maui from around the world looking for a unique one-time Maui experience. The small groups of family and friends came in different configurations from couples to siblings to parent-child. Students found Mele mainly on the internet or by participating in public workshops and events at shopping centers. Lessons started out being 45-minutes and then changed to 1-hour.

Highlights of small group lessons include: (see below)

  • The Swiss couple who requested the 1st Intensive Week and consented to being filmed playing “Happy Birthday” and “Happy Wanderer.”
  • The Alaska Couple who took ukulele lessons from November 2012 – February 2013 and then invited us to north resulting in the “Home Alaska Ukulele Players Event” in August-September 2013.
  • The Largest Private Group of 15 ukulele players from California shared a song “Be My Baby” which inspired Mele to arrange a version to teach classroom students at Kaunoa.
