Ten ukulele players came Saturday to the first workshop of the New Year. How exciting that one of the players that came had taken private lessons from me two-years ago in January 2012! Harvey was also my first webcam lesson student after he returned home to Boston, MA from vacationing in Maui. I love it when my former students look me up years later when they come back to Maui. We gathered in the Bailey House Museum’s main building which provided an intimate setting similar to being in someone’s living room with the two couches against the wall and people sitting in chairs in the middle of the room with my back towards the fireplace. We had fun for 2-hours of playing 2,3, and 4-chord songs with different strums. Join us the next time you’re in town.

Twelve ukulele players including five visitors to Maui came Saturday to the workshop. One new couple from Alberta, Canada had watched my videos on the internet and said they were happy to meet me. A few local residents who had taken a break for awhile, came back. New was the wireless mini headset that slipped over my ears. We brought our small portable PA to amplify my voice and ukulele so everyone could hear me now over the loud collective sound of the group playing their ukulele and singing. This system worked great. This was also the first time the new director of the Bailey House Museum heard us during the workshop. Sissy Lake now knows what my workshops are all about as she saw how much fun people were having playing their ukulele to popular sing-along songs. Two visitors to the museum sat in just to sing. What a great way to spend a rainy Saturday playing ukulele with friends!

March 8.Play Along with Ukulele Mele workshop at Bailey House Museum, Wailuku. (for current workshop info)

Nine ukulele players including three new participants from Japan, Czechoslovakia, and Canada came Saturday to the workshop. We met in the main building's art gallery because the regular room we use was filled with a quilt exhibit. Since it was a smaller room, we didn't need to amplify my voice or ukulele. We played some new songs from country, folk, hapa haole, and pop genres. More players sang along this time, as a good time was had by all.
