The Maui Ukulele Pops Band recorded 15 songs in a studio concert “Aloha From Maui to Japan” for broadcast over Akaka Community TV Station on Mele’s new YouTube Channel. We had planned to tour Japan in May 2011 to perform during Maui County’s sister-cities Rose Festival in Fukuyama. However, on March 2011 an earthquake and tsumani hit Japan and we decided to cancel our trip. A contact in Japan asked us to make YouTube videos which he could share in our absence. “Hawaiian music is so uplifting, “he said.
A Japanese language teacher from Kaunoa Senior Center translated after Mele introduced each of the 15 songs which we recorded and saved as separate files. Some songs included hula dancing. The songs were produced and sent to our Japanese contacts to spread aloha and our music as a gift to the people of Japan. The videos can be viewed at Mele’s YouTube Channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/melefong.
