June Musical Airport Greeting

Sheldon Brown greets us at the airport

Sheldon Brown greets us at the airport

When we returned last weekend from a trip to Oahu, we were pleasantly surprised to see Sheldon Brown and friends entertaining at the baggage claim area of Kahului Airport. Sheldon and I were ‘ukulele mentors for college students enrolled at the University of Hawaii Maui College Institute of Hawaiian Music.

We often hear Sheldon and his brother Kevin play music around town with their Brown Ohana. In fact, the last time we greeted them on stage was in May at the Ukulele Explosion aka Sam’s Upcountry Jam at Kalama Intermediate School in Makawao.  I was supposed to teach a ‘ukulele strumming workshop and The Hawaiian Serenaders were supposed to perform, but we had to cancel everything when I came down with laryngitis.

What a great way to be greeted at the airport with beautiful Hawaiian music – we know we’ve arrived home!
