Mele danced hula to “Mahina o Hoku” at our wedding reception as Rich sang and played his ukulele. Later, we both sang and played music together for our guests.
We were married at a New England style chapel on Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland on a Saturday of Labor Day Weekend. Our families flew in from Hawaii and brought flower leis. Our ceremony had many Hawaiian cultural elements such as the exchanging of lei. When we sang “Let It Be Me” acapella to each other, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
During our reception, there was Hawaiian music and hula all afternoon with Gordon Velasco, the leader of the Polynesian group we used to be part of, serving as MC.
