Queen Lili’uokalani’s Birthday

Queen Lili'uokalani

Learn about Hawaii’s Last Queen on September 13

Come honor Queen Lili’uokalani’s birthday on September 2 by attending my first Oral History & Sing-Along Series program at the Bailey House Museum on Saturday, September 13 from 10:00 a.m. – 12 noon. Learn about the last reigning queen of the Kingdom of Hawaii and sing some of her songs. ‘Ukulele and guitar players welcome.

I put together a 13-slide PowerPoint presentation with script to tell the Queen’s story. During the research process, I learned a lot about Hawaii’s queen and why she was, and still is, so beloved by the Hawaiian people.

I also created another 13-slides within the PowerPoint presentation to talk about her compositions as an author and songwriter. We will learn how to pronounce the Hawaiian words, play, and sing three of her famous compositions, time permitting. The songs include Aloha ‘Oe, The Queen’s Prayer, and Ku’u Pua I Paoakalani.

‘Ukulele players who want to learn how to play these songs with unique strums, get the song sheets, audio recordings, stories behind the songs and more, can do so by subscribing to Monthly Online Lessons. Feeling lucky? Enter to win free 30 days of online lessons by clicking here for contest details.
