Mother’s Day Ukulele Concert on Maui

The Hawaiian Serenaders – Richard Tom and Mele Fong – present a Mother’s Day Concert on May 12 at 10 a.m. at Kula Hospital on Maui. The husband-wife duo play ‘ukulele and u-bass and sing a variety of Hawaiian, hapa haole, pop, and jazz songs that are familiar to older adults.

The Hawaiian Serenaders – Richard Tom and Mele Fong – present a Mother’s Day Concert on Sunday, May 12 at 10 a.m. at Kula Hospital in upcountry Maui. The husband-wife duo play ‘ukulele and u-bass and sing a variety of Hawaiian, hapa haole, pop and jazz songs that are familiar to older adults. This is the second consecutive year that the Serenaders are returning to entertain hospital patients and their families with a free Mother’s Day concert.

The Serenaders are artists with the University of Hawai’i at Manoa’s Statewide Cultural Extension Program, and have represented the state of Hawai’i in concert at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Rich and Mele are both Hawai’i born and raised and have played music professionally together since they married in 1994.

Mele Fong is a professional singer, song arranger, and master of multiple strumming styles for the 'ukulele. She is an experienced educator with over 50+ years experience playing the 'ukulele and entertaining worldwide. Mele performs with her husband in the duo "The Hawaiian Serenaders" and leads student groups. In 1996, the duo represented the State of Hawai'i in concert at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Mele and her husband Richard Tom were both born and raised on Oahu and now reside in Maui.
