Maui Ukulele Jazz Trio at Upcountry Fair 2014

“Blues in the Night” – The Maui Ukulele Jazz Trio performed this song among others during our show at the annual Upcountry Fair last Sunday, June 8 at Oskie Rice Park in Olinda. Picture rolling green hills with horses and cattle grazing on the pastures on the slopes of Haleakala, and you’ve got upcountry Maui. The theme of the annual Upcountry Fair is paniolo, meaning Hawaiian cowboy, in keeping with the cultural heritage of the area. It was a beautiful afternoon to play music outdoors, and our honor to be asked back to perform once again.

Two years ago, Rich and I performed as The Hawaiian Serenaders right after the Maui Ukulele Pops Band. This year Hinano joined us so we stayed plugged in on stage following the Band’s 45-minute set. That made a very easy transition between sets. The Maui Ukulele Jazz Trio played 13 songs from a variety of musical genres in keeping with the upbeat, party atmosphere during another 45-minute set. Songs in order were Kupa Landing, Little Brown Gal, Wahine Ilikea, Under the Palm Tree, Princess Pupule, Kaula Ili, Ka Leo, Flying, Sweet Someone, Blues in the Night, Medley: Waimanalo Blues/Paniolo Country, To You Sweetheart Aloha, and Uwehi Ami and Slide.  What fun we had!
