December Workshop Review

Arizona student enjoyed December’s Workshop

Six people came to my 32nd ‘Ukulele Strumming Workshop on December 19, 2015 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Bailey House Museum in Wailuku. This brings the total to 395 participants since the first workshop began on July 14, 2012.

Another resident came and left after she opened her ‘ukulele case only to find it empty – oh no – she forgot to put her ‘ukulele back in the case after practicing! Of the four local residents, two were returning from previous workshops, and two were new. Of the two visitors, one was from Arizona and one from Colorado. One new person brought his banjo ukulele. When asked “How did you hear about the workshop?” I was excited to hear that one new person had clicked through from the 808UkeJams website link to my website. Jarret Delos Santos put my photo and logo on his homepage with the caption “offering a wide variety of learning options to help satisfy your ‘ukulele hunger.” Hopefully other people will also click through to find out about options to learn ukulele on Maui, online, and by packaged song sets.

We had fun playing the following songs:

Part 1: (3-chord songs)

  1. Lion Sleeps Tonight – chalang-alang strum; I Wanna Rest Strum
  2. She’ll Be Comin’ ‘Round the Mountain – Hum Ding-Ah Strum
  3. This Land Is Your Land – Hum Ding-Ah Strum
  4. Sloop John B – Latin Strum
  5. La Bamba/Twist and Shout – Latin Strum

Part 2: (3+ chords with on and off base chords)

  1. Feliz Navidad – Latin Strum
  2. Jingle Bells – Hum Ding-Ah Strum
  3. Silver Bells – Basic Waltz Strum
  4. Hawaii Aloha – Morse Code Strum

After the workshop, I was pleased when we were asked to take photos by a participant. The next workshop will be Saturday, January 16, 2016. Register to save-your-seat today!
