The Hawaiian Serenaders are front page news

We were so happy to be featured on the front page of our local Sunday newspaper! Plus, the lengthy caption and photo was placed above the fold! It’s not everyday that happens.

The Hawaiian Serenaders opened the entertainment lineup for the Saturday, July 19 Celebration of Bailey event at the Bailey House Museum in Wailuku. We played Hawaiian and hapa haole music for the occasion, and sang samples from our newly released (especially for this event) CD titled “Hawaiian Songs and Stories.” The album includes 7 old Hawaiian songs (that I also teach how to play on monthly online lessons) with the audio stories about the songs. New for this event, the Bailey House let me put up a display table inside the museum with my brochures and CDs for sale. Later on we’ll look into selling the album online and possibly through iTunes by digital download.

Toward the end of our set, I looked to my right and was surprised to see photographer Matt Thayer standing next to me with his camera. After our show, Matt came to ask our names and why we support the Bailey House. I reminded Matt that I knew him from my days as public relations person for the Maui Invasive Species Committee when I worked with the news media a lot. Maui is such a small place.
